Hotel Mumbai

The film was created based on real events, the plot is very complex. A film about a terrible attack in the Mumbai hotel with the Virgin Patel and Armie Hammer in one of the main roles.

American David and his wife Zahra arrive in the Indian city of Mumbai and settle in a huge chic hotel. There the agile waiter Arjun provides a service, where a Russian businessman with a complex character, Vasily, arrives later. All of them do not expect that terrorists who arrived from Pakistan will very soon launch bloody attacks throughout the city. And the Taj Mahal Hotel is one of their main goals.

The film «Hotel Mumbai» is cruel, the director calmly considers the dead, not trying to hide the killings behind the scenes of the movie set. But Western critics managed to react inappropriately to this: it is not quite right to turn the sadness of thousands of people into mockery, like salt to a wound. That’s just the cruelty of the «Hotel Mumbai» can not be called at least some spectacular: its cold calculation is more likely to frighten and repel.

Terrorists are not some kind of neutral deadly force, firing only the roar of bullets. They are ordinary people, with whom the scenes in the picture are repeated no less than with their victims. And the film raises questions that most films about terrorist attacks leave aside, focusing on personal problems: how many people need to be hypnotized so that a person who has one ideology as a whole loses them, blocking them by  this or that idea?

Hotel Taj Mahal, of course, does not give any answers — the film, as a rule, manifests itself most vividly in its silent scenes.

Director-Maras shows much more tragedy throughout the country than the tragedy of individual victims. Against the background of the portrait of the terrorist attack, his sensitivity is felt by a frank lie, a false inclusion of something due, but the film is completely alien.
