Five Feet Apart

Movies about love on the background of deadly diseases are usually either very touching and cause a desire to see something else on a similar topic, or cause rejection, because it is always «automaker». Also, the topic of diseases, especially against the background of news about sick stars of show business (or God forbid from a closed environment), causes subconscious fear, which means a desire to isolate yourself from such films. I’m interested in movies like that, they always cling to me and I give them pretty high marks even if the movie itself isn’t shot very well. So it happened with this picture.

If you try to compare several well-known films on this topic, then the undisputed leaders I wrote “Blame the stars”, «autumn in new York» and «Seven lives».

The film tells the story of two teenagers with cystic fibrosis, who met in the hospital, where they spend most of their lives. Their disease is almost untreatable, some patients can be prolonged with lung transplantation (which will prolong their life for a few more years), some can be hoped for only with the help of experimental drugs-it depends on who has what form of the disease. Stella was in the first category, will in the second. A girl who has already lost her beloved sister is struggling to survive so that her parents do not go crazy with grief. She blogs about her life supporting other people with the same disease.

Will gave up on themselves hand, communicates exclusively with sarcasm with surrounding world and seeks to nor to whom not approach, to not injure themselves its death. Moreover, it is dangerous for other patients with the same disease — it can infect them with its specific virus, which immediately transfers those infected from the first category to the second.

Therefore, he is even deprived of communication with patients in his Department. However, the unexpected happens-one day he sees Stella in the corridor and falls in love at first sight. Young people get to know each other and love begins. Love that can breathe life into one person and the desire to fight. Love that can kill another person if the first one touches him or comes closer than 1.5 meters.

The idea of the film and the script are amazing. You penetrate the heroes with all your heart and put the score below nine, the hand just does not rise. But, frankly, the acting skills here are so much wants the best that throughout the viewing constantly want to lower the rating. Besides, I didn’t like the main characters, there was something repulsive about them. It seems to be not a particularly significant moment, but it spoiled the film. In addition, the film, for all the splendor of the script, almost actually spoiled it.

In addition, the film, with all the splendor of the script, almost literally created from the original source, lacked sincerity — and this is an indispensable component of such pictures.

But the biggest drawback for me was the final. Throughout the film, you have some idea of how it will end, but the ending is different. And there he looks a bit strange and strange. Although on the one hand we can say that such a turn is not bad, but, in my opinion, if they shot the expected, the film would be stronger.
