The picture tells about the events that occurred in Hollywood in 1969. The once-popular actor Rick Dalton and his understudy Cliff Booth are trying to find their place in the changing world of the film business. It’s worth saying right away that the film turned out to be very stylish and atmospheric. You are literally 3 hours in 1969 Hollywood. Streets, costumes, hairstyles, cars, music, radio, movie clips amazingly convey the spirit and mood of the end of the «golden age» of Hollywood.
Quentin decided to recall his childhood, so he approached the recreation of that time in such detail. And because of this, there are times when it becomes already boring and sickening to look at 1969 Hollywood. If you lived at that time, then 100% you would be pleased to see these «streets, costumes …», etc., but if not, then the next long trip by car from one end of the city to another or shown again in the details of a little room — cause melancholy and fatigue.
Therefore, the first 1.5 hours of the tape seemed boring to me, since the plot itself almost stands still and the whole story revolves around the Hollywood entourage of that time. But the next half of the film is already causing more emotions. There is tension, worrying about the heroes, dynamics and, finally, the Tarantino action, from which you scream and admire with all your voice along with the rest of the people in the cinema. Well, the cherry becomes very kind, sweet and delivered with respect to Sharon Tate and the victims of the tragedy of August 8, 1969, the ending.
And definitely worth mentioning about the cast of this film. Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie are amazing here and play one hundred percent! Those who remember Sharon Tate say that Margot was able to perfectly recreate it on the screen and it is difficult to find the differences between them. Although in the film she is a secondary character. Leo played a great actor, who was once popular, and now is trying to grab onto any more or less interesting work. And Brad Pitt perfectly showed a charismatic and fearless understudy. I probably liked him the most.
Perhaps due to the fact that he had a bit more screen time and he beautifully got out of difficult situations. Perhaps the film was expected a lot of action, blood, chases, a twisted plot (I will not hide it, I also expected it), but allotment got a picture that is saturated with reflection, director’s childhood memories and declaration of love for the Golden Age cinema.
