The Shawshank Redemption

The film is based on the story of Stephen King’s “Rita Hayworth and the Rescue from the Shawshank”, published in the collection “Four Seasons”.

Perhaps in this picture absolutely everything is perfect. For 25 years, the film has not lost its power, depth and relevance.

The world of a person sentenced to several life sentences is gradually becoming different. First, the prison walls inspire fear and are very crushed, then a person gets used to them, and then they become family. How to live in freedom after 50 years in prison? The heartbreaking line of Brooks, the old librarian, makes me wash my tears at every look.

The excellent duet of Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins falls in love with the audience and holds their attention for almost 2.5 hours.

Most prisoners had to strangle all hope of a brighter future with their own hands in order to save themselves from torment.

But Andy Dufrain proved to everyone that hope is all that a person has, freedom is inside, and nobody can take it away. Everyone makes a choice — «to engage in life or engage in death.»

The film deservedly leads the Top 250, provides food for the mind and spirit, leaves a wonderful aftertaste.

And now let’s move on to an interesting fact:

The shooting took place at the Mansfield Correctional Facility in Ohio. The prison was in such a deplorable state that it was necessary to spend a lot of budgetary funds on bringing it into proper shape.

The photographs of the young Morgan Freeman on the documents are actually photographs of his son, Alfonso Freeman, who also starred in one of the episodes of the film.

In the original novel by Stephen King, Red is Irish. Despite the fact that in the film adaptation the role of Red was played by the black-skinned Morgan Freeman, it was decided to leave in the film Red’s remark “Maybe because I am Irish,” as a good joke.
